About Me

Hi, my name is Orquídea, everyone calls me Orqui (it’s pronounced sort of orkee).
I was born and raised in Mexico City but my heart belongs to Oaxaca. I spent a decade in Montreal, Canada, but harsh winters are really not for me.

Back in Canada, I had the chance of either continuing my existing career (Communication Sciences) or start all over, I decided the latter. I enrolled in what would be my second degree, a three year program in Commercial Photography.

I was asked once by someone,
“What kind of a person goes to school
for so long to just study Photography?”
Well, someone like me.

I made Photography my career, and I treat it respectfully. Thanks to amazing teachers I learned the business side of this beautiful art. I love my job and I take it very seriously. I emphasize this because I want you to be confident that if we get
to work together, I guarantee you professionalism.

I keep myself up to date participating in workshops that are not necessary related to weddings. With people like Cristina de Middel, Mary Ellen Mark, Ernesto Bazan
among many other amazing photographers that help me to maintain
my personal style fresh and unique rather than “industrialized”.

After 11 years in the industry, I can tell you I have nailed completely the technical aspect of my craft, so I can focus ENTIRELY on being present with my clients, respecting their personality and honoring highly the opportunity I have been given by capturing such an intimate, personal type of photography.

I’m a ceramics collector and I am Interior Design hobbyist. I renovated my
house directly with the contractors (quite challenge I did dare to take!).

Favourite things: tres leches cake, my nephews, plants and more plants,
traveling ( who doesn’t), deep conversations, cinema and psychology.

GRACIAS!
